The road to a fruitful summer garden starts long before the snow disappears, with a good plan!

We're all eager to get our hands in the dirt, but first thing's first. Join us for a Garden Planning Workshop, to gain insight, ideas, tips and tricks from Certified Alberta Horticulturalist Bev Rogerson. Bev has a few decades of experience in research, landscape design and construction, and floral retail. She owns and operates Willow Valley Greenhouse near Wembley.

Whether you have specific questions about your space - or are looking for some tips to help make the most of your time and resources, this evening workshop is for you. We'll cover some general do's and don'ts, zones, as well as practical steps for determining the number and variety of seeds to start, how to time your seeding, and even testing of leftover seeds - will they germinate? Find out how you can be sure!

This Garden Planning session is the FIRST in a three-part series of Garden Workshops planned for the Library this Spring, to be followed by:

  • Seeding (Complete with Community Seed & Supply-Swap), Thursday, April 2nd @ 6:30pm
As you’ve been working to purchase the supplies you need, you undoubtedly have some extras (you know those things you need six of, but they come in packages of 100?) Maybe what you have leftover is exactly what your neighbour still needs? Bev will be back to share more information on seed starting, timelines, avoiding common problems, etc, and then we'll wrap up with the Seed & Supply Swap.
  • Get in that Garden, Thursday, May 7th @ 6:30pm
Your seeds are started and they’ve taken over your kitchen / entry-way / sun-room … it’s almost time to get them out of your house & into their permanent home, what do you need to know to do so in a way that INCREASES your chances of healthy plants & produce?

All sessions will begin inside Elmworth Community Library, utilizing Elmworth School's SPECTACULAR onsite greenhouse wherever weather, time & activities permit.
